Hair Growth Cycles and Waxing

Each hair on your body is in a different stage of its growth cycle at any given time. There are three main stages:

  1. Anagen (Growth Phase): This is the active growth stage where the hair is firmly rooted in the follicle. Waxing during this phase yields the best results because the entire hair, including the root, is removed. The more you damage the follicle by pulling the hair out, the thinner the hair becomes or it will stop growing in that follicle entirely.

  2. Catagen (Transitional Phase): This short stage marks the end of active growth. The hair begins to detach from the follicle, making it harder to remove completely.

  3. Telogen (Resting Phase): Hair in this stage is not growing and will eventually fall out naturally. Waxing during this stage may not pull the hair out effectively.

Because not all hairs are in the same stage at the same time, it’s common to see regrowth soon after your first couple waxing session. Consistent treatments every 4-6 weeks can help synchronize hair growth and improve long-term results, but it can take up to 4-6 months to align all of the growth cycles.
